November 6, 2007According to a posting on the DEEP PURPLE fan site Deep-Purple.net, the studio recording of former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord's The Durham Concerto will be released in January 2008 on CD, but may be available a little earlier to people over the web.
The Durham Concerto by Jon Lord was performed by the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Mischa Darmev at the Durham Cathedral in England on October 20. Jon took part in the performance as a soloist playing Hammond.
The concerto, which was packed with more than 1,000 music fans, was commissioned to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Durham University, according to the Sunderland Echo.

Lord, 65, is perhaps best known for his four- or five-minute rock songs, but he has always written longer pieces as well.
It was his desire to concentrate on the orchestral works which led him to leave DEEP PURPLE in 2002.
